Document 612 Obtaining LaTeX packagesVersion: 3.x, 4.x, 5.x - Scientific WorkPlace & Scientific Word LaTeX packages extend TeX typesetting capabilities by enabling some specific document behavior, such as the creating of an index or the formatting of footnotes. When you install SWP or SW, you automatically install those packages that are included with the standard LaTeX distribution, along with some additional packages that are commonly used in the LaTeX community. Some of the packages installed were created for use with SWP or SW. If you want to take advantage of a package that isn't part of your program installation, you must obtain it from a source for LaTeX files, such as the Comprehensive TeX Archive Network ( CTAN). The CTAN directory on your program CD contains LaTeX packages as distributed on CTAN, but not all those packages are installed with SWP or SW. The installation program places in the SWP or SW directories only those files needed for using or documenting the packages. NoteAlthough we have tested the shells and specifications that we provide with the program to ensure that they work correctly, we can't guarantee that all LaTeX packages included as part of our installation will work with our products, nor can we guarantee that the documents you create using those packages will behave as the packages advertise. Further, we don't support documents created with packages not provided with our products. If you add a LaTeX package to your installation, carefully follow the instructions to install it correctly and then add it to your document. Last revised 08/18/05 |
