Graphics in subdocuments don't appear in PDF files

Problem

When a PDF file is created from a master document and its subdocuments, graphics included in the master document appear in the PDF file but graphics included in the subdocuments do not. Graphics appear correctly when the subdocuments are previewed.

Explanation

The master document has been saved in a form that correctly formats graphics for PDF output, but the subdocuments have not. Unlike other typesetting specifications, these settings are not transferred automatically to the subdocuments unless the subdocuments are each saved after the master document has been saved.

Solution

1. Open the master document.
2. From the Typeset menu, choose Output Choice.
3. Select PDF output and then choose OK.
4. Save the master document.
5. Open the subdocument.
6. Make a minor change to the subdocument, such as entering and then deleting a space.
7. Save the subdocument.
8. Repeat steps 5–7 for each subdocument.

The subdocuments are now saved in the form needed when including graphics for PDF output.
