Updating REVTeX4 to the final release

Version: 3.5 & 3.51 - Scientific WorkPlace & Scientific Word

The final version of REVTeX4 has been released. It replaces the beta release of REVTeX4 included in Version 3.5. To update Version 3.5 to use the final release:

  1. Remove the directory c:\swp35\tcitex\tex\latex\contrib\supported\revtex4-beta and all of the files found inside this directory. This will ensure that the old REVTeX files won't be found.
  2. Download REVTeX4. You can either download from the APS web site or from the Comprehensive TeX Archive Network (CTAN).
  3. Unzip the contents of the archive file you downloaded into the newly created directory c:\swp35\tcitex\tex\latex\contrib\supported\revtex4. You will end up with the following directory structure:
    Directory structure
Only the files in the main directory are needed. The src directory contains the source code for REVTeX4, the docs directory contains some documentation files, and the sample directory contains some REVTeX4 sample files.
  4. Move the files apsrev.bst and apsrmp.bst to the directory c:\swp35\tcitex\bibtex\bst where they can be found by BibTeX.

Now when you compile your REVTeX4 documents you will be using the final version of REVTeX4.

REVTeX4 changes some of the standard LaTeX macros and Version 3.5 does not save certain front matter items in a form compatible with REVTeX4. In particular, REVTeX4 allows multiple \author macros where standard LaTeX combines several authors into a single \author macro. This problem can be avoided by placing all front matter items in encapsulated TeX fields in the body of the document. Download this REVTeX4 shell for SW/SWP 3.5 and place it in the Shells\Articles directory. The REVTeX4 front matter is handled properly by SWP/SW 4.0.

If you are still using SWP or SW Version 3.0 you may be able to use the above instructions and shell document, but this has not been tested by MacKichan Software, Inc. REVTeX4 does require additional LaTeX packages that are not included with Version 3.0. The additional packages can be downloaded from CTAN.
