Using a Lexmark Laser Optra S with Version 3.0

Version: 3.x - Scientific WorkPlace, Scientific Word, & Scientific Notebook

The following information was provided by the Lexmark International, Inc. Technical Department.

Problem

The Greek letter pi (and probably some other characters) do not print properly.

Solution

In order to print the pi symbol, the customer will have to change the PCL Emulation on the printer itself. We have to keep a few things in mind for the customer.

  1. By changing languages customers may not be able to print other characters.
  2. The process described below will only be for the Lexmark Laser Optra S Printers, please be informed that other Lexmark Laser Printers will have a different procedure.

Listed below is the procedure to change the Symbol Set on the printer for the Lexmark Optra S :

  1. The printer should be in the ready position.
  2. Hit the right side of the menu button until you see PCL EMUL MODE; hit the select button.
  3. Hit the right side of the menu button until you see SYMBOL SET; hit select button.
  4. The printer has basic ASCII TEXT, standard with all laser printers. The customer can choose from the following symbol sets and the pi symbol will print, 5M PS MATH, 6M VENTURA MATH and 8M MATH-8.

Note BY CHANGING SYMBOL SET THE CUSTOMER MAY LOSE OTHER SYMBOLS TO PRINT.
