Error: General protection fault in module DIBENG.DLL

Problem

When the program is being started, or changes are being made to the toolbar settings (such as selecting large buttons), a program crash occurs and this message is displayed:

General protection fault in module DIBENG.DLL

The toolbars do not function and the program closes.

Explanation

MacKichan software programs use shared Microsoft code to manage the toolbars. The module reporting the error is not included with our programs; rather, it is a Windows driver component. Microsoft reports this error as a problem with the display driver.

Solution

Update the display driver or select a standard display driver. Read further details and suggested solutions in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 235618.

One customer reported difficulties in following the instructions in the Microsoft article. His solution was to delete the current video driver and then allow Plug-and-Play to detect and install the video driver for his computer.
